With the premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the books and the film excelling at the box office, focus is already slowly shifting to Episode VIII, the next as yet untitled film in the main Star Wars franchise. As the movie will premiere just under a year from now, marketing is sure to commence soon. In fact, it’s already receiving some unofficial marketing from one of its stars.

Adam Driver, who plays the evil Kylo Ren, spoke with The Daily Beast about his time working on the sequel trilogy. He was asked about his experience working on Episode VIII and with director Rian Johnson. Based on the interview, it looks like Driver is thrilled about the project.

“He’s a brilliant filmmaker,” Driver said about Johnson. “And he wrote the script also and he understands the importance of ambiguity and nuance. He wrote something that I think is remarkable.”

That’s some high praise coming from an actor used to much smaller productions. His career took a major turn when he was cast in The Force Awakens and he explained how surreal his life has been since that happened.

“It is a trip!” he explained. “I’m not very good at analyzing it, I guess, or even making time to attach meaning to it. So much of it is luck and timing. I work hard but I can work hard in a vacuum. I’ve been lucky to get these opportunities. It’s very surreal to me. In working on the jobs—and actually doing the thing—I block that stuff from my mind as much as possible because it’s not good to get nostalgic or overthink it. That might be a good strength of mine: not thinking a lot.”

We know what Driver thinks of the upcoming film and how it’s affecting him, but if we want to form our own opinions, we’ll have to wait to see actual footage. We could be waiting a few more months as producer Kathleen Kennedy hinted that a trailer won’t arrive until spring.
