The Mummy featurette introduces the Monster universe
Yesterday, we saw the first trailer for the long-awaited reboot for The Mummy starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. Today, Universal Pictures have released a featurette, giving us an inside look at some of what went into the making of the film. Director Alex Kurtzman and some of the cast talk about what it was like during filming, as well as doing many of the crazy and over-the-top stunts we’ll see in the film.
Kurtzman also mentions that this is just the beginning, as there is a planned franchise for monsters. Much like what we’ve seen with Star Wars, Marvel, and DC, there will be an all-encompassing monsterverse. With this being the first, the plan includes Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man, Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s monster, Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Which will then all lead up to a showdown with, you guessed it, Van Helsing.
Even though there’s practically no chance of it happening, I would love to see Hugh Jackman return as Van Helsing. It appears that they have a pretty big road ahead of them, but from how the trailers look so far, I think they’re off to a great start.
The Mummy hits theaters on June 9, 2017 and stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, Sofia Boutella, and Russell Crowe.
