Beyond Good and Evil sequel teased by Michel Ancel: ‘Game in pre-production’

If you follow French game creator Michel Ancel on Instagram, you would know that for the past week he’s been teasing his next project. While he hasn’t said the name of his game, it’s clear that it is related to his 2003 hit Beyond Good and Evil.

It all started about a week ago when he posted this piece of concept art on his Instagram:

Somewhere in system 4 … – Thanks #ubisoft for making this possible !

System 4 is an area in the Beyond Good and Evil series and on the man’s back is a young Sus sapien, an intelligent species resembling a pig. Fans also know this as the species of Pey’j, your sidekick from the original game. Is this infant a younger Pey’j, or a new character that is the same species? That remains to be seen.

A couple of days later, he posted another work of concept art:

"Ready for the fight " independence #ubisoft day

This is a Charcharadon sapien, a shark creature from the same game. The description reads “Ready for the fight – independence Ubisoft day.” This message was in response to Ubisoft successful shareholder meeting with Vivendi, a media conglomerate aiming to buy the company.

Now, as of 2 hours ago, Ancel posted this image of a Rhinoceros sapien with an interesting description:

Endangered species – now saved – Game in pre-production – Stay tuned !

“Endangered species – now saved.” Is he talking about the rhinoceros, or the franchise? I’m betting on the latter! Not only that, but in the statement he states that the game is in pre-production and that we should stay tuned. This news is incredibly exciting for Beyond Good and Evil fans ever since a sequel was teased with a trailer about 8 years ago. The game was never reported to be cancelled, as a matter of fact, the game has been claimed to still be in production since then.

Does the fact that it’s in pre-production mean they’re starting from scratch? Either way, our questions could be revealed soon as Ancel said in the photo: “Stay tuned!”
