Disney has made some incredible strides in just the past two years, from the cerebral Inside Out in 2015, to the allegorical social exegesis of 2016’s Zootopia. Even their live-action films have been on point this year, with Pete’s Dragon, and their biopic Oscar contender, Queen of Katwe. Well, now we have news as to who will be at the helm of one of Disney’s upcoming animated films, and I can say that I am extremely excited for what’s to come!

The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that Disney Animation’s Gigantic will have Captain Marvel and Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve as the director. LeFauve will be joined by Nathan Greno as co-director, as the project is scheduled for release in November 2018.

Gigantic is Disney’s updated translation of the timeless tale about Jack and that pesky beanstalk, but instead Jack befriends a female giant. The project was announced at last year’s D23, being developed under the radar until it’s announcement.

We hope this will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk … with comedy and deep emotion,” said Greno, who previously co-directed Tangled, at the time. He also announced that Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez will write the songs for the film.

I have to say, I really enjoy Disney films when they revert back to their roots, in regards to 2-dimensional cartoons. I love the artistry behind it, not that computer animation doesn’t have beauty behind it as well. There’s just something to be said about characters and animation that reminds you of younger days. I’m anxious to see how this story plays out, and how the genius behind Inside Out is going to steer the film.
