After the end of the long labor day weekend comes that lull in the movie season before the holiday movies come out. Oh, and Rogue One. Yet, also around this time comes a few movies that might capture the attention of audiences looking for the next Oscar-winner. Enter Collateral Beauty. It has all the makings of an Oscar contender with Oscar-winner Michael Sugar (Spotlight) producing the film and starring Will Smith, Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Michael Peña, Keira Knightley as well. Judging by the trailer it looks as if all of these prolific actors will be gunning for that Best Actor/Actress award in February! Check it out!

With the film coming out in Christmas, Collateral Beauty will definitely have some comparisons to the classic tale: A Christmas Carol. However, instead of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future visiting Will Smith it’s Time, Love, and Death that visits him.

Collateral Beauty is directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) and stars Will Smith (Suicide Squad), Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk), Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean), Michael Peña (Ant-Man), Naomie Harris (SPECTRE), Jacob Latimore (“Survivor’s Remorse”), Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs), and Helen Mirren (Eye in the Sky).

When a successful New York advertising executive suffers a great tragedy he retreats from life. While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. But it’s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses that he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.

Collateral Beauty hits theaters on December 16th.
