SDCC 2016: New Fantastic Beasts trailer is quite illuminating

Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this year was filled with magic, and I’m not talking about love in the air. With the entire audience of 7,000+ each armed with wands, everyone in unison let out a resounding “lumos maxima” to illuminate the room. And with that, we were treated to the all-new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In an instant, the trailer takes off into the world of magic and wizardry. Being a very vanilla Harry Potter fan (yes, I know it sounds like an atrocity), this trailer really makes me want to indulge way more into the Potter-verse.

We see Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) magical creatures escape a magical briefcase, and sets loose upon an unknowing 1920’s New York. There’s also a good amount of Auror Perival Graces (Colin Farrell) investigating the sudden appearance of these beasts running rampant. Hunting down the animals is very reminscent of literally playing Pokémon, especially since they come in many types and sizes. While it appears that citizens take to them as a threat, with police dispatched to try and take them down, I suspect there’s much more than meets the eyes with all of these beautiful creatures. Check out the trailer for yourself below.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18th.
