Starz lowers the sails for Black Sails after Season 4

BSE7-2

It appears that the Golden Age of Piracy is coming to an end. Earlier today, STARZ announced that its hit show Black Sails will end after Season 4, which is set to premiere in 2017. We last saw the war against piracy led by real life figure Woodes Rogers escalate against Flint and his crew. The build up from Season 3 bleeds into Season 4 in a battle for Nassau’s future that is poised to be a bloody one.

Series co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg said the following regarding the news:

“It’s a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we’ve enjoyed on this show over the last four years. While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural hand-off to Treasure Island. We’d like to thank Chris, Carmi and everyone at Starz for all their faith and support, and to our astounding cast and crew for joining us on this ride.”

Since it’s premiere in 2014, Black Sails has shown us a different side of the lives of pirates with each breathtaking episode. Even though Black Sails is a prequel to the book Treasure Island, it brought to live real life figures and events that took place in the Bahamas’ dark history. It’s definitely a show worth watching and I’m eager to see how the show will end.
