Latest ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 3 trailer reveals Grand Admiral Thrawn as the big bad

Grand Admiral Thrawn is officially now canon! The Chiss officer was stuck in Expanded Universe Legends limbo for the longest time with his Thrawn trilogy beloved by EU fans all over the world. Now, Dave Filoni has officially announced that Grand Admiral Thrawn will be in Star Wars Rebels and will be gunning after the crew of the Ghost. Check it out with the trailer below!

Just don’t expect the “Heir to the Empire” and the other two books to be added to the canon all of a sudden. However, creator Timothy Zahn has overseen the entire production process and has whole-heartedly given it his seal of approval. In addition to his appearance, it was announced that Zahn will be writing a new novel called “Thrawn” that will be released in 2017.

That’s not all! This Christmas in the Mikkelsen household will be full of Star Wars joy as Lars Mikkelsen (brother of Rogue One‘s Mads) will be voicing the character for Rebels.

If you’re unaware of Thrawn’s history, here is a little excerpt from his Wookieepedia page: Mitth’raw’nuruodo, better known by his core name Thrawn, and misinterpreted as Mitthrawdo by Vicelord Siv Kav, was a male Chiss who served in the naval forces of the Galactic Empire and became the only non-Human Grand Admiral. Regarded by many as the best military strategist in the navy, he rose to a position of power despite the Empire’s strict speciesist policies.

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 will premiere on Disney XD sometime in Fall 2016.
