Sorry Ghostbusters reboot, but China doesn’t want you

The Ghostbusters reboot has been receiving flak from the original Ghostbusters fans when it was first announced. The reason for this was that the old-school team was not coming back; they’re being replaced by a female-led team. Reviews have been coming in, and they are mostly positive. Soon fans who want to see the film will get to experience it in theaters this Friday.

However, not all fans will get to see the film, especially if you’re from China. The country has decided not to show the film due to it being “unattractive” to audiences. That should be a big box office blow for Sony. However, the reason may not be what you think.

“It’s been confirmed that Ghostbusters won’t be coming to China, because they think it’s not really that attractive to Chinese audiences,” a Chinese executive told The Hollywood Reporter. “Most of the Chinese audience didn’t see the first and second movies, so they don’t think there’s much market for it here.”

Are you still looking forward to watching Ghostbusters in theaters this weekend?
