Batman: The Killing Joke is heading to over 1,000 theaters

The DC Universe animated original movies are usually a direct-to-home video affair, but with Batman: The Killing Joke, a film based on the popular one-shot graphic novel, it can’t be contained inside the living room. The film is hitting Blu-rays and DVDs on August 2nd, but for those who want a bigger experience and to see it early, they can watch it in theaters for a one-night event on Monday, July 25th, at 7:30pm and 10pm local time.

There has been an overwhelming demand with sold out theaters in major markets, and Fathom Events has announced that it will be adding 300 more theaters for the special event. That means that the film will be shown at over 1,000 theaters nationwide, making it the biggest event in Fathom Events’ history.

The film reunites the team behind Batman: The Animated Series with Bruce Timm returning as executive producer and voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively.

There will also be a special video introduction from Hamill along with a never-before-seen documentary discussing his passion for the animated feature and a look at the recreation of the Joker’s song and dance number from the comics to the film.

You can purchase tickets at or at participating theater box offices. To see a list of participating theaters, visit Fathom.
