Review: Belkin Travel Rockstar

As someone often on the road, packing power packs becomes a necessary piece of luggage. With its dual outlet and USB charger, the Belkin Travel Rockstar helps cut down on the weight and number of devices I need to carry with me.

As a 2.66” x 5” x 1.6” curved rectangular block, it’s very easy to store in bags without risking ripping a hole or accidentally scratching devices screens, or other potential issues with a less ergonomic design. The pronged plug itself flips inwards into a slot, preventing it from getting caught on anything. There’s also a button at the side to check the battery pack’s power status. With two outlets instead of just one, charging multiple devices all at once became a lot easier at the airport and on the go, considering the amount of traveling I do. The added safety of surge protection is an added bonus, and eases the mind. The only potential issue I foresee is if users dislike the actual size; although the item itself is light at just 0.62 lbs, it’s not the smallest piece of equipment to carry around.

Despite that this battery pack has a 10W/2amp spec, it takes 4 hours to charge my phone fully, which is twice the length of time it takes my usual portable phone chargers. It’s not the fastest charging device out there, but it does its job. It’s particularly convenient for long trips or if you’re at a convention with no outlets around. I can charge my laptop and phone and still leave the original number of outlets open available for other people to use. (Great for making friends AND getting an outlet without having to wait too long.) The dual capability of having 2 actual outlets and a USB charger for the phone is definitely handy. The feature that would make this even better is if I could charge my devices from the outlets in the battery pack without it needing to be plugged into an AC outlet.
