You may think that you’ve seen all the Marvel superheroes on screen at this point, but you’d be very wrong. Though she’s not a household name, Squirrel Girl, yes Squirrel Girl, is gaining popularity lately, possibly due to the more comedic landscape of comics today. Although at first glance it would seem unlikely that the character would appear in any Marvel film, Anna Kendrick’s willingness to play the critter-based hero might give an appearance, or even film, some momentum.

Speaking with Net-A-Porter, Anna Kendrick discussed portraying a super hero on screen:

“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

What does Squirrel Girl do? Well, in addition to her superhuman strength, agility and senses, she has a prehensile tail, razor-sharp claws and retractable knuckle spikes. However, her most unique trait is the ability to communicate with squirrels.

Squirrel Girl, or Doreen Green, originally tried to become Iron Man’s sidekick before joining the Great Lakes Avengers and worked as a nanny for the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones later on. Most shockingly, she’s known for defeating powerhouses like Dr. Doom, MODOK and Wolverine in battle. She’s even said to have defeated Thanos, although this victory in unconfirmed and mentioned by characters but not shown explicitly.

It’s not a huge surprise that Kendrick chose Squirrel Girl considering the actress is cute, small, quirky and incredibly energetic. Let’s see if Marvel can make it happen!
