J.K. Rowling introduces Ilvermorny, the North American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry


J.K. Rowling introduced a new story on her official website Pottermore about the North American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ilvermorny. The story tells the humble beginnings of the school to how it is todaym as well as the Houses associated with them. The Houses, which are not equivalent to the Houses in Hogwarts, are Thunderbird, Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie, and Wampus.

According to Pottermore, the four Houses are named after magical creatures:

• Horned Serpent – a ‘great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead’
• Pukwudgie – ‘a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature’
• Thunderbird – a creature that ‘can create storms as it flies’
• Wampus – ‘a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill’

‘Ilvermorny is the second installment of short stories for Magic in North America written by Rowling to prepare fans for the upcoming release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is set in the United States.
