Makoto Shinkai returns with another unique and introspective film that features a “story of miracles and love” focusing on high schoolers Mitsuha and Taki. Mitsuha, the daughter of the mayor of a small rural and traditional town, is unhappy with her current lifestyle and yearns for the busy and fast-paced Tokyo life. Taki, on the other hand, lives in central Tokyo and holds a part-time job at an Italian restaurant. The connection between these two: they dream of a different life… in particular, that of their unknown counterpart.

Shinkai is known for some of the best animated films, with unique plotlines and that unknown factor that draws in audiences like moths to a light. Other famous works include 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Garden of Words, Voices of a Distant Star, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days.
