Anime Expo, the largest anime and manga convention in North America, returns to Los Angeles this Fourth of July weekend. The convention, brought to you by SPJA, has been around in SoCal since 1992 and saw record attendance last year with over 260,000 attendees. An additional 40,000 attendees grew between 2014 and 2015. This year attendance can be expected to break records again.

Among the panels, masquerade, maid cafe, cosplay meet-ups, gaming, and exhibit hall, AX is known for its sold-out ticketed events. This year’s featured event Anisong World Matsuri is a festival of live performances by artists who perform popular anime theme songs (anisong). The matsuri takes place at the convention center adjacent Microsoft Theater throughout the weekend.

Artists include Eir Aoi (Sword Art Online II, Kill La Kill, Aldnoah.Zero), JAM Project (supergroup of anisong veteran musicians known for DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh, ONE PIECE), Luna Haruna (Sword Art Online I & II, Monogatari), Minami (Infinite Stratos, Mobile Suit Gundam Age), sphere (film – I want to let you know that I love you), T.M.Revolution, Yoko Ishida (Sailor Moon R), DJ Kazu.

I’m personally excited for the One Punch Man event on Saturday, July 2nd featuring a panel with animation director Shingo Natsume and voice actor for Saitama, One Punch Man voice actor, Makoto Furukawa. A screening of the first English dub episode, special guests, and JAM Project performance is also in store.

We’re also super excited for the Cowboy Bebop Jazz Cat Experience taking place in the main events hall on Monday, July 4th from 11:30am-1:00pm. Ten piece jazz ensemble Alice Underground will be performing Cowboy Bebop songs live along with visuals from the show. Expect to also see the cast from the English dub on stage to celebrate.

Announced today, the Sailor Moon English cast will be back again this year for a panel and autograph session (posters provided by Viz Media) on Sunday, July 3rd, 10:00am-12:00pm in the main events hall.
