Jake Gyllenhaal to produce and star in Ubisoft’s ‘The Division’ movie

Love it or hate it, The Division has made a lot of money for Ubisoft. The mega-popular third-person RPG shooter has made $330 million in the just five days – a massive accomplishment for a brand new IP. It’s only fitting that Ubisoft is looking to bring their new popular franchise to the big screen.

Variety is reporting that Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star and produce the film based on the hit video game. The studio is currently looking for both a writer and another star before selling the package to the various studios. Ubisoft currently has Michael Fassbender’s Assassin’s Creed and Tom Hardy’s Splinter Cell in development over at Fox and Paramount, respectively.

The Division is set in a dystopian New York City in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic. You play an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division (The Division) who’s tasked with helping rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak, and combating criminal activity in its wake.
