Brie Larson is the frontrunner to star in ‘Captain Marvel’

During his press run for Captain America: Civil War, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige promised to deliver news on Captain Marvel during the summer. One can assume that would mean that we’d get an announcement during the San Diego Comic-Con but there might get it sooner than that.

Variety broke the news that Oscar award-winning actress Brie Larson (Room) is currently the frontrunner to play Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in Marvel’s upcoming space epic, Captain Marvel. They do note that it’s unknown where negotiations currently stand but their sources do reveal that Larson is their first choice and Larson is leaning towards the part. There isn’t a director onboard yet but the idea is to introduce the character in another film before Captain Marvel is released.

This won’t be the first time that Larson played a comic character before. She previously played Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The film was directed by former Ant-Man director, Edgar Wright, and co-starred Captain America himself, Chris Evans. She’s currently co-starring in Kong: Skull Island alongside Tom Hiddleston. Needless to say, the Marvel family runs deep with her big-budget films.

Brie Larson is just one of many actresses linked to the role as Katee Sackhoff, Katheryn Winnick, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Sienna Miller, and Natalie Dormer have all at one point been linked for the role.
