Tobey Maguire shares his thoughts on Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man

In a movie like Captain America: Civil War that’s packed to the brim with superheroes, you may think it impossible for any of them to stand out and make a real impact. Surprisingly, though, Spider-Man is a high point of the film even though this is the third version of the character we’ve seen in only 15 years. There’s always the risk that the character might get stale, but critics and audiences seem to agree that young actor Tom Holland hit it out of the park while playing up the web slinger’s naive, innocent and goofy qualities.

Among the people praising Holland’s performance is none other than Tobey Maguire, the original Spidey in Sam Raimi’s films. The actor shared a fan mashup on Instagram that depicts his Peter Parker seeing Holland’s web-slinger for the first time, an encounter that sends him racing to his room for his own costume.

“Haha seriously, who made this?” Maguire wrote. “@tomholland2013 good job! You are great as Spider-Man. Keep it up!”

It seems like the 40-year-old actor isn’t bitter at all about other actors donning the red and blue suit. Maguire was also supportive of Andrew Garfield who starred in the 2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel in 2014. Speaking to Garfield, Maguire claimed, “I was certainly curious as to who was going to play Peter Parker. When I heard it was you, I was literally like, ‘Fucking perfect!'”

Maguire, along with millions of fans, will be delighted to know that Holland will appear in yet another reboot titled Spider-Man: Homecoming which is due in theatres on July 6, 2017. Although, considering all the superhero films coming out nowadays, you’ll probably see Maguire, Garfield and Holland altogether in an upcoming Spider-Man film in the near future.
