Kevin Feige says Black Widow movie is in the works

There are fans who have been hankering for a Black Widow solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson ever since she first appeared in Iron Man 2, and it looks like they may get their wish. With Johansson starring in a lot of action movies like Lucy and the upcoming Ghost in the Shell, this may have persuaded Marvel Studios’ mind.

In an interview with Deadline, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said that they’re in the early stages of working on a solo Black Widow film. The answer came when he was asked about supporting characters like Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon and War Machine possibly getting their own movies.

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019,” Feige said. “Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned, I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”

It looks like fans will have to wait until Phase 4 since Phase 3 is crowded and will end in 2019 with Avengers: Infinity War – Part II. (The Inhumans movie has been pulled from its 2019 release date.)

So why are they focusing on Black Widow compared to the other supporting characters?

“We think she’s an amazing character,” he said. “We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”

Are you excited for Johansson to star in her own Black Widow film?

In the meantime, fans can get excited for the rest of the Phase 3 films including Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the two Avengers: Infinity War films.
