First look at suits for Power Rangers reboot

With the Power Rangers reboot movie set to release next year, Lionsgate has revealed photos of Elizabeth Banks as villain Rita Repulsa. Now Entertainment Weekly gives us our first look at the new Power Ranger suits. These will be worn by Jason (Dacre Montgomery), Trini (Becky G), Zack (Ludi Lin), Kimberly (Naomi Scott), and Billy (RJ Cyler).

The new suits are certainly a big upgrade from the lycra and spandex used in the original Mighty Morphin Power Ranger series back in the ’90s. Now the Rangers will don translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies.

“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite tells EW. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

“It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies admits. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

What are your thoughts on the new suits?
