Captain America: Civil War debuts with $200 million at foreign box office
Captain America: Civil War will be hitting U.S. theaters this Friday, but it has already made $202.2 million at the box office internationally. It’ll definitely be making a lot more after the American, Chinese and Russian release.
Marvel is likely celebrating already since the film is one of its best-reviewed films and also one of its biggest foreign openings. It was also close to reaching Avengers: Age of Ultron numbers, but if you were in Mexico, Brazil and the Philippines, it already surpassed it.
The film has already opened in around 63% of the foreign market, with records being broken in the Philippines ($7.5 million), Mexico ($20.6 million) and Brazil ($12.3 million).
Estimates from Disney right now is that it’s 5% behind Avengers: Age of Ultron. The good news is that it’s 26% ahead of Iron Man 3 and The Avengers, and 157% ahead of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Currently, the film has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s tied up with the first Iron Man movie, which makes the two the best-reviewed Marvel Studios films.
It’s helping that Captain America: Civil War features many Avengers including Tony Stark, Ant-Man, and War Machine and newcomers Spider-Man and Black Panther.
Are you team Cap or team Iron Man?
