George Miller being eyed to direct ‘Green Lantern Corps’

After the disastrous Green Lantern film came out in theaters in 2011, the franchise is currently going through its blackest of nights. But in the blackest of nights comes the brightest day. During his weekly Heroic Insider show, Umberto Gonzalez revealed that Mad Max: Fury Road director, George Miller, is the person Warner Bros is looking at to direct Green Lantern Corps.

“Let me tell you what I’m hearing. I know something, I heard something yesterday. The hot rumour is George Miller,” Gonzalez said. “George Miller is being rumoured to direct the Green Lantern Corps movie, and I think it’d be perfect for him, are you kidding me? George Miller. Again, it’s just a rumor right now, I just literally heard this yesterday.”

Keep in mind that this is far from a confirmation that George Miller is going to direct Green Lantern Corps. George Miller has said that he wants to direct a smaller film next before tackling more Mad Max films, so he may be too busy or old to direct Green Lantern Corps. Also, with Green Lantern Corps currently slated for release in 2020, things could be very different 4 years from now. The DC Cinematic Universe has already changed course twice now, and depending on the success of its upcoming DCCU films (Suicide SquadWonder Woman, and Justice League Part One), Warner Bros could end up changing things again if the films aren’t successful.

A lot of things need to align before Miller accepts the job, but it’s interesting to see what kind of spin George Miller would put on a Green Lantern film. “Mad Max in space,” as the Heroic Insiders put it, is a very interesting concept.
