Keanu Reeves voices Keanu cat in Keanu movie

Keanu is coming out this Friday and follows Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as two friends on a mission to rescue its cat named Keanu, obviously named after Keanu Reeves. The film is an homage to the John Wick film.

In an interview with LA Times, director Peter Atencio explained that he tried to get Reeves to work on the project, but he wasn’t able to go far. That changed when the film’s trailer came out.

“Yeah, they politely declined. Who knows if he ever even heard about the offer. But then we got a call after the trailer came out — apparently, his sister showed him the trailer and said, ‘Hey, you gotta see this. You’re gonna love this!’ He flipped out and got in touch with us directly to say ‘If there’s anything I can do, let’s make this work.'”

Keanu didn’t want the film poking fun at him and wanted to talk to Atencio first before signing on. The director praised the actor in many ways.

“He wanted to talk to me before he agreed to make sure that wasn’t the case. So I told him about the movie and talked him through the story. His personality has just transcended life, in a lot of ways. You wouldn’t have ever guessed that the guy from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure would turn out to be this thoughtful, kind man.”

The recording of Keanu’s cameo was done in Rome since he was busy filming John Wick: Chapter 2. Now fans can look forward to Keanu playing Keanu the cat in the Keanu movie when it hits theaters this Friday.
