Disney reserves release dates for ‘The Jungle Book 2,’ ‘Dumbo,’ and more

Those of you who are fans of Disney’s live-action remakes of their animated films then you’re in luck. With The Jungle Book dominating the box office over The Huntsman this past weekend, Disney has gone out staked out a few future key dates for their live-action remakes.

July 28, 2017, April 6, 2018, August 3, 2018, December 25, 2018, and December 20, 2019, are all the dates claimed by Disney today. That’s in addition to two dates (November 2, 2018, and November 8, 2019) the studio has already claimed a few months ago for their untitled live-action fairy tales.

The Hollywood Reporter’s studio insiders has said that the above dates will go towards the following films:

  • The Jungle Book 2
  • Cruella starring Emma Stone
  • A Wrinkle in Time directed by Ava DuVernay
  • Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
  • Dumbo directed by Tim Burton
  • The Mary Poppins sequel starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed by Rob Marshall
  • Maleficent 2 starring Angelina Jolie
  • A Tinkerbell film starring Reese Witherspoon
  • The Nutcracker and the Four Realms directed by Lasse Hallstrom

As you can see, Disney believes in the live-action adaptations of its own internal properties. If it’s as charming and fun as Favreau’s The Jungle Book then I’m all in.

Disney’s next live-action installment, Beauty and the Beast, enchants theaters on March 17, 2017.
