Mafia III story trailer revealed

2K Games has just released a new trailer for its upcoming game Mafia III, entitled “One Way Road”. More of the story is revealed this time around as is main character Lincoln Clay’s motivation.

Not long after his return from serving a tour of duty in the Vietnam War, he seeks to bring down the Italian Mob in New Bordeaux headed by Sal Marcano for the murder of the head of the city’s Black Mob and Lincoln’s friend/father figure Sammy Robinson, as well as his own attempted murder in the same incident by Marcano’s right-hand man.

The location of the game is also confirmed here. In Mafia I and II, the cities of Lost Heaven and Empire Bay were cities that were composites of a number of different large American cities. This time around the setting appears to be singularly based on New Orleans, having a different name only to fit in with the previous two games.

We also get another brief glimpse at two of Lincoln’s lieutenants: Cassandra, who from the looks of it is about two seconds away from carving up Marcano’s nephew like a Thanksgiving turkey, and Burke, who’s making good use of a sniper rifle. Surprisingly there’s no footage of Lincoln’s third lieutenant and main character of Mafia II, Vito Scaletta, who made his appearance in last years reveal trailer. Though there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing him a lot of him in this game alongside Lincoln which, considering the ending events of Mafia II, is not surprising that Vito would have left Empire Bay and become very sour on the Italian Mob in any shape or form.

There also looks to be muscle cars galore with Lincoln apparently taking a shine to what looks to be a black Dodge Charger that looks like a carbon copy of the one featured in the iconic car chase of the movie Bullitt. It also looks like the weapons have made the jump to the 1960s as well. The main pump action shotgun looks to be the iconic Ithaca 37 and the Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum revolver also looks to be another available choice even though it’s about 3 years too early for Dirty Harry. It’s not too far-fetched to speculate that, considering the ongoing Vietnam War and Lincoln’s service in that we may see the appearance of the Vietnam era M16A1 and possibly even an M60. Hey, we got to use an MG42 in Mafia II. Old work horses and iconic Mafia weapons also look to be making their return as well. The M1911A1 pistol looks to make another appearance as it has in the previous two titles. The iconic Tommy Gun also makes a return in its M1A1 form as well.

Regarding the pre-order bonus, it’s made up of three extra guns and three extra cars. The guns appear to be an M1903A4 sniper rifle, a Remington 870 pump action shotgun, and THE iconic Tommy Gun, the M1928. The three extra cars are also icons of the era including one that is definitely a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT.

The release date is set as the 7th of October. Take a look.
