Uncharted 2’s artifact was almost Thor’s hammer

Each Uncharted game featured some kind of powerful artifact located inside a lost city that entices Nathan Drake and the crew to go on an adventure all around the world. The first Uncharted game featured the lost treasure of El Dorado, Uncharted 2 had the lost city of Shambhala, and Uncharted 3 had the lost city of “Iram of the Pillars”.

During an interview with Neil Druckmann while promoting Uncharted 4 (via GamesRadar), he revealed that Uncharted 2 almost featured the search for Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

The Naughty Dog team would brainstorm on different ideas via concept art and “story exploration” by putting in “as many to the table as possible,” said Druckmann.

Of course, only one could come out on top. Druckmann said, “We hit a wall here, or lost interest but this other one seems really exciting.” He continued, “One we didn’t do I remember discussing for Uncharted 2 was Thor’s hammer. What would that mean to do Thor’s Hammer? We would actually do concept art and we got pretty deep down that road.”

Welp, that wasn’t the case since the artifact in Uncharted 2 was the Cintamani Stone. It would be interesting to see if Nathan Drake would be able to lift the hammer.
