The Last of Us movie struggling to take off

Although there’s some good news for fans of The Last of Us regarding a sequel to the incredibly successful survival horror game, those excited for a movie adaptation may have to remain patient. It was pretty much a forgone conclusion that a movie would be made based on the game that already feels like a movie and, in fact, one has been in development for a while now, but it looks like we won’t be seeing it anytime soon.

IGN spoke with game director and writer of the film’s script, Neil Druckman, about the movie during a press event showcasing gameplay for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. To be honest, it sounds pretty bleak.

“I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do,” he said. “There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.”

Buzz around this film reached its peak with news that Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams aka Arya Stark was being considered for Ellie, but there’s no word on what the recent update means for this casting situation.

The Last of Us, an incredibly epic and emotional game, follows Joel and Ellie as they journey through an unrelenting post-apocalyptic United States.
