A new Dungeons & Dragons movie is in the works from Warner Bros. Pictures, and according to The Tracking Board, Rob Letterman will be directing the movie based on the tabletop RPG. Letterman’s directorial projects include Shark Tale, Goosebumps, Monsters vs. Aliens and Gulliver’s Travels.

The tabletop game was first published in 1974 and became a success in the late ’70s. It has spawned many products including the critically panned 2000 movie starring Jeremy Irons and Marlon Wayans.

The new film is produced by Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis, Courtney Solomon (director of the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons movie) and Allan Zeman of Sweetpea Entertainment, and Roy Lee (The LEGO Movie, How to Train Your Dragon). David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2, Wrath of the Titans) is attached as the screenwriter.

The producers are looking for “a Vin Diesel-type” actor for the lead role. Funny thing, Diesel is a fan of Dungeons and Dragons.
