Star Trek: TNG alum Jonathan Frakes set to voice Star-Lord’s dad

In a delightful collision of fandoms, Jonathan Frakes, best known for his role as Commander William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, has been tapped to provide the voice of Star-Lord’s father, J’Son, in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.

“I’m thrilled to be part of another great sci-fi franchise,” Frakes said of his new gig. His character, who is the king of the alien Spartax empire and estranged father of Peter Quill, will appear on the Disney XD series in an episode set to air on March 13th.

This will not be Frakes’ first venture into the world of animated voice over work. He was part of the main cast of the ’90s cartoon Gargoyles. He has done much behind-the-scenes and directing work in the industry after his stint on The Next Generation and its four films, two of which he directed.
