The Transformers films have been all over the place in terms of location. The last film, Transformers: Age of Extinction, had filming locations including Hong Kong and Detroit. Transformers 5 will also be shooting all around the world, but the majority will be shot in Detroit again. The Detroit shoot will take place this summer, as revealed by Paramount and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. This comes after the modified incentive agreements with Paramount receiving $21 million of state incentives while also helping with the speed of the production schedule.

“Having one of the highest-profile film franchises created in Michigan is a major economic boost and a testament to the talent of the state’s production community,” said Jenell Leonard, commissioner of the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office. “The production and economic investment is now happening sooner rather than later, and obviously, the project is a certainty rather than merely a possibility.”

It’s estimated that the spending within the state will be $80 million with 850 cast and crew members being hired (450 will be Michigan residents that is liken to 228 full-time positions). It’s also expected that 700 extras will be hired.

“Michigan has been so welcoming of Michael Bay and the ‘Transformers’ movies over the years and we are thrilled to be returning for this next incredible installment,” said Lee Rosenthal, president of Physical Production at Paramount Pictures.

Paramount has around $42 million in eligible incentives for its many pre-approved applications with the Film Office. With Transformers 5, it will be taking half of the incentives and the remaining $21 million will go back to the state general fund at the end of the fiscal year.

The film will be written by Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and Black Hawk Down’s Ken Nolan. Michael Bay will direct with Mark Wahlberg returning.

Transformers 5 will hit theaters on June 23, 2017. Bumblebee will be the star in Transformers 6 on June 8, 2018. Transformers 7 will be out on June 28, 2019.
