Ubisoft gives Naughty Dog flak for using Assassin’s Creed artwork in Uncharted 4 trailer
Did you get to check out the new story trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End? If not, watch it here. The trailer touches on the subject of how protagonist Nathan Drake should quit being a thief, and oh, the irony is not lost.
Ubisoft developers have chimed in on the new trailer, saying that Naughty Dog used a concept art from Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag for the new trailer. The artwork of the island and ocean painting was used as a transition from a framed image to Nathan actually being on a beach.
The Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag concept art can be seen below in the new trailer:
And here’s the actual concept art for comparison:
Somebody at Naughty Dog thought they’d be sneaky enough by removing the pirate in the art, but Ubisoft developers caught on.
Assassin’s Creed Head of Content Azaïzia Aymar took to Twitter to poke fun of Naughty Dog for stealing the image.
Alex Hutchinson, the director of Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 4, called out Jonathan Cooper, former Ubisoft worker who’s now at Naughty Dog, on Twitter. What’s funny was that Cooper called out Hutchinson for his comment about how it’s hard to animate a female for Assassin’s Creed Unity.
In response, Sony and Naughty Dog swapped out the old trailer with a new one with a new artwork. Let’s hope this new artwork actually belongs to Naughty Dog.
