‘Daredevil’ showrunner Steven S. DeKnight to direct ‘Pacific Rim 2’

Pacific Rim 2 is alive! Just when things were looking bleak for Pacific Rim 2, Legendary Pictures has chosen Steven S. DeKnight to direct the sequel. Guillermo del Toro will serve as producer along with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent.

Pacific Rim 2 will mark DeKnight’s feature film directorial debut. His previous directorial work includes episodes for “Daredevil,” “Dollhouse,” “Smallville,” and “Angel.” In addition, he served as executive producer and head writer for Netflix’s “Daredevil,” and created the hit series “Spartacus” for Starz. He also was part of the Paramount’s writers room which was responsible for developing the Transformers cinematic universe.

Although Pacific Rim was considered a commercial success ($411 million worldwide), Pacific Rim 2 has always been in limbo. There were rumors that the film was being put on hold indefinitely in favor of Godzilla vs. King Kong, but del Toro provided an update that the budget plan was ready and that Jon Spaihts (upcoming Doctor Strange) would be writing the script. With DeKnight onboard it looks as if the film is a definite go.

Let’s just hope DeKnight will come up with awesome Jaeger vs. Kaiju fight scene that’s as thrilling as “Daredevil’s” hallway fight scene.

What do you think?
