Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast of Star Wars: Episode VIII

As if the new Star Wars trilogy wasn’t already insanely successful, it was announced by the Walt Disney Company that Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro and Oscar nominee Laura Dern will be joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode VIII which has already commenced filming in London. In Del Toro’s case, this confirms the rumors of his involvement that have been circulating for some time. As expected, however, there’s no information about the characters they’ll be playing.

These talented actors will be joined by many of the stars of The Force Awakens including Daisey Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o. They’ll also be joined by Kelly Marie Tran, a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade with no major film credits to her name. Obviously, she’s not as famous as Del Toro and Dern, but Disney describes her as a ‘talented newcomer’.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), the next film in the series is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
