Sonic the Hedgehog to get live-action/animated hybrid movie in 2018
It was announced in 2014 that Sony would be working to put gaming icon Sonic the Hedgehog on the silver screen with producer Neal Moritz and Marza Animation Planet (a Japanese production company). Now it is confirmed that we will see the Blue Blur come to theaters in 2018. This film is being written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, known for their work on Funny Or Die, and will be a hybrid of live-action and animation similar to that of Who Framed Roger Rabbit or the recent Smurfs films, also produced by Sony.
“Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid Sonic The Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018,” Sega president and CEO Hajime Satomi said in an interview with The Wordfolio. “Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.”
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most successful and recognizable video game characters in history so it’ll be interesting to see how the movie pans out. Let’s just hope it’s nothing like this…
…on second thought…
