Star Wars: The Force Awakens features some very cool Easter eggs and surprise cameos. One example would be Daniel Craig playing the First Order stormtrooper who was under Rey’s control at Starkiller Base. Now it’s revealed that there’s an Easter egg with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and a cameo from Clerks director Kevin Smith.

Remember the opening act with Kylo Ren and The First Order attacking the Jakku camp? After the attack, there’s a sand alien who sees BB-8 escape, and it’s that alien that says the word, “Kojima.”

Director J.J. Abrams and Kojima are fans of each other’s works, so it’s not surprising at all to hear that Easter egg.

If Abrams a fan of something, he’ll tend to add it to his films. For example, he’s a big fan of The Raid, a film that raised the bar on martial arts action. He wanted to work with the actors and decided to have them portray the Kanjiklub gang, a group that wanted Han Solo dead.

“I was just a fan,” Abrams told Slashfilm. “It was an opportunity. I knew we needed people for this one sequence that would be particularly fun to see a group of people working together. It was simply just as I had seen John Boyega in Attack The Block and thought “how cool would it be to work with that guy one day?” and the opportunity arose and it worked out. And opportunity arose for this and I thought ‘God, I wonder if the dudes from The Raid would be available?’ And to my amazement, and they were willing, and they were incredible. They showed up and did a terrific job.”

And then there’s Kevin Smith. During the First Order’s attack on Maz Kanata’s castle, a stormtrooper said, “We have incoming at 28.6! Move!” That was Smith.
