Pikachu talks in new Great Detective Pikachu trailer

Pokemon Company Japan finally gives us a first look at the little-known detective Pokemon game teased some time ago and it’s excellent. Now Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo is revealed to the world with its debut trailer featuring the cuddly critter. Except he can talk now.

It seemed natural that Meowth could speak human languages, but hearing it straight from the yellow rodent took me a couple more watches to finally realize how great this could be. There are some in-game footage featuring some of Pikachu’s excellent facial animations, but anything solid gameplay-wise has yet to appear. The game is expected to drop in Japan next month on the eShop. As to a North American release that remains to be seen, but at least we can enjoy this crafty debut trailer from Nintendo.
