‘Creed’ director Ryan Coogler on board to direct ‘Marvel’s Black Panther’

Black Panther has found their captain to lead the ship. Marvel has announced that Ryan Coogler (Creed) has been hired to direct Black Panther for Marvel Studios.

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family,” Kevin Feige said in a statement. “The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’challa’s story to life.”

With Ava DuVernay and F. Gary Gray passing on Black Panther, the hiring of Coogler is a big-time coup for Marvel Studios. No word on whether he will write and direct Black Panther as he did with his previous directorial efforts.

Black Panther rules theaters on February 16, 2018.
