Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games coming to Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo has released more information about the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games including the reveal of the full cast of characters, what events to look forward to, and amiibo support for the Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will feature 40 playable characters (20 from each franchise) which will only be selectable in different events.

The game will feature training gyms based on your initial affiliation (Amy’s Training Gym for Sonic side and Peach’s Training Gym for Mario side) which focuses on training for certain events and finally an unlockable Mario and Sonic themed Mii outfits.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will also feature amiibo support. Tapping certain amiibo (Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary amiibo, Mario, Sonic, Gold Mario, or Dr. Mario) will unlock temporary outfits for your mii characters as well as an increase in stats for 24 hours. Players can use these costumes and more in the Champions Road to train their Mii’s to compete.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will release in Japan on February 18, 2016. It has yet to receive a release date in the West.
