Samsung reportedly to release the S7 in February with two screen sizes

Rumors are floating around that the next flagship smartphone for Samsung, currently under the assumption that it will be called the Galaxy S7, will be arriving in the next couple of months.

According to a report from Reuters, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S7 in two screen sizes in February. The Ukrainian tech blogger, Ivan Luchkov, who leaked the date for the announcement of the Galaxy S5, also agrees with the timeframe and believes Samsung may hold an Unpacked event on February 20th in Barcelona, just a few days before the Mobile World Congress.

It is rumored that a 5.2-inch Galaxy S7 and a 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge are reportedly in the lineup for the February announcement. The report claims Samsung is planning to produce 3.3 million of the smaller S7 and 1.6 million of the larger curved model.

Currently, Samsung offers the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge both with a 5.1 inch display and with the Edge model having a curved screen at the edges. The mobile giant also offers the Galaxy S6 Edge+ that boasts a 5.7 inch screen in addition to the same curved edges as the smaller screened version. Although we obviously cannot be sure until the official announcement, some of the rumors surrounding the S7 include the phone being powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM and move away from the micro USB port to a USB Type-C port. Samsung is also rumored to bring back the micro SD slot for expandable memory, a feature removed with the launch of the S6.

On the outside, the design is rumored to not change much from the S6. Other than that, some other features rumored to be included on the new flagship phone include a pressure-sensitive screen that may function the same as the Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus 3D Touch does as well as the possibility of an iris scanner. Rumors have also been circling about the redesign of TouchWiz, the Samsung skin for Android OS, so let’s all hope that is one that comes to fruition.

What do you think about the rumored changes coming with the Galaxy S7?
