Casting: Who should play Marvel’s Iron Fist?

There has been an ongoing discussion regarding the casting of Marvel’s Iron Fist television series set to air on Netflix. Many have suggested, like Nerds of Color and The Hollywood Reporter, casting an Asian actor to play Danny Rand, who was originally a Caucasian male in the comics. There have been some comic purists who are against the idea of ethnically changing Danny Rand, the outsider who finds the mystical city of K’un-L’un as a young boy and obtains the power of the Iron Fist.

Although I, and many others, would like to see an Asian actor portray the character, it looks like Marvel is leaning towards sticking to the comics. Though, since nothing has been confirmed, I decided to list potential actors (Asian and Caucasian) for the role of Danny Rand aka Iron Fist.

1 – Cole Horibe

Martial artist and actor, Cole Horibe has expressed an interest in the role of Danny Rand. Although the role of Rand does not require actually knowing martial arts (look at Charlie Cox as Daredevil), Horibe is one step ahead of everyone in terms of skill. He could also possibly do his own stunts as Iron Fist. He also already has the body prepped for the physical challenges.

2 – Yoshi Sudarso

Another martial artist!? Yes, Yoshi Sudarso already has a large following from his role as the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Charge. He has the acting chops and the physical capability to play the character. With his good looks, acting skills, and martial arts experience, he’s ready to be Iron Fist. Did I mention he also does parkour?

3 – Joe Taslim

Already starring in big franchises – The Raid 2: Redemption, Fast & Furious 6, and the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, Judo champion Joe Taslim has experience in the entertainment industry as an actor and martial artist. It may be time to cast him as a Marvel superhero.

4 – Manish Dayal

Famous for his role in The Hundred-Foot Journey, we know one thing about Manish Dayal – he can act. Hitting the highs and lows of emotions, Dayal can play Danny’s struggle to become the Iron Fist and use his powers for good – also to focus his qi. Martial arts can come later or with stunt doubles.

5 – Ki Hong Lee

Already a known face from the Maze Runner series and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Lee is making a name for himself. He has a large following, can act, and is physically in shape for the role.

6 – Dan Stevens

To those who want to stick with the comics of Danny remaining Caucasian, here is a great choice who not only could act but also can fight in action movies. We know the British actor could portray an American, having played a former United States soldier in The Guest. Plus, look at him.

7 – Mike Vogel

I just finished watching Childhood’s End and was pretty mesmerized by Mike Vogel, not only for his charming good looks but also his acting skills. He could bring some emotional depth into Rand.

So, what do you think of the list? Am I missing anyone you’d like to see on here?
