Ariel won’t have red hair in new The Little Mermaid film

Following up on one of our previous articles from a month ago, The Little Mermaid movie starring Chloe Grace Moretz has recently gotten some hype.

If you did not know, Working Title and Universal are taking on the classic tale of The Little Mermaid. Richard Curtis, known for About Time and Love Actually, is said to be writing the screenplay. Chloe Moretz (yes – our beloved Hit Girl) was cast as the red-headed mermaid!

But our iconic Ariel will not have red hair in this new adaption. In fact, Curtis is going off of the original book by Hans Christian Andersen where the actual hair color of the mermaid is never specified.

Sadly, a lot of fans are pretty upset about it and are even making comments about how they refuse to even go see the film when it comes out. All because of a hair color! Some people, I suppose, just can’t get past the fact Disney gave her red hair. On top of that, I would assume most don’t understand that the original story is based off of something different than what Disney put out. For most films by them, it ends up being that way. Unfortunately, we can’t get past that.

On the bright side, others who can move on are excited to see the film and don’t give a hoot about what hair color Ariel will have! I’m proud to say I’m one of those people. I’m really excited to see the way Curtis will take The Little Mermaid and make it into something similar, but new and refreshing to us who love the Disney adaption so much. Especially since Chloe Moretz is going to be our main character.

What do you think about the blonde hair?

*Previous edit had the title stating Ariel won’t have blonde hair.
