Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars! anime) is getting a 2nd season

If you were disappointed in how the 24th episode of the Shokugeki no Sōma (Food Wars!) anime series ended last season, you are in for some great news. The second issue of 2016’s Weekly Shonen Jump confirms that a second season is happening.

Shokugeki no Sōma, also known in the West as Food Wars!, is centered around a young chef named Sōma, who grew up working with his dad in his small time restaurant. While Sōma has always been around food all his life and plans to one day take over the family restaurant, his father enrolls him into an elite cooking school where it’s difficult to get in unless you have a high level of talent. Even then the graduation rate is only 10%.

It’s there Sōma challenges himself to master new cooking techniques and prove that his method of cooking is just as good as any expensive gourmet restaurant. For him it’s more about the happiness of his customers than the price of the food.

The 24 episodes of Shokugeki no Sōma was simulcasted by Crunchyroll and licensed for release in North America by Sentai Filmworks. The manga series is currently available by Viz Media, which just saw the release of the ninth volume at the beginning of the month, with Viz also simultaneously publishing the new chapters in English digitally as they release in Japan.

No date has been confirmed for the second season, but Weekly Shonen Jump will reveal more information in future issues.
