Cate Blanchett to star in Thor: Ragnarok?

Thor’s next adventure will be Thor: Ragnarok, and with a title like that, you know it’s going to be epic. Now we have a report from Variety that Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) is in talks to play a lead character. Who is she going to play? The site doesn’t know for sure, but if she does join the cast, she could be a villain, an Asgardian, or someone from Midgard.

Blanchett definitely has some nerd cred. She can recently be seen in Disney’s live-action Cinderella as the evil stepmother. She was also Galadriel in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings films and the villain in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Thor: Ragnarok will start pre-production in January of 2016 in Australia, with principal photography scheduled for June of 2016.

Chris Hemsworth will star as Thor along with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. The film will be directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows) from a script by Christopher Yost, Craig Kyle and Stephany Folsom.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
