Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie as Tarzan and Jane in first look at The Legend of Tarzan

About 2 years ago, I wrote an article discussing why Tarzan deserves a reboot, and with The Legend of Tarzan, I am happy to say that these photos of Tarzan and Jane live up to the expectations. In the first photos you can see how fit Alexander Skarsgard had to get in order to play a much leaner version of the legendary Lord Greystoke while still being muscular to the core. He’s a type of hero who parallels Spider-Man in both agility and shape.

I have read in a few places that this is a different version of Tarzan when it absolutely isn’t. Instead of telling the origin story of Tarzan, they are skipping the first book since most people know the legend of Tarzan. They are instead focusing on Tarzan 10 years after leaving the jungle with D’Arnot to find Jane. He is now married and has taken his family name of Greystoke even being a member of the British Parliament. Yes, you will see some flashbacks of him during his time in the jungle to show his past, and hopefully some familiar animal faces from the books will be present.

He will be going back to Africa in this film as an emissary of Parliament. Instead of him being the animal turned British Lord, it will be the opposite as said by Skarsgard.

“It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast, this is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.”

Tarzan’s friend, Chief Mbonga, will be played by the talented Djimon Hounsou and the talents of Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz will help with the historical backdrop for the film.

Skarsgård worked with choreographer Wayne McGregor, a British choreographer of modern dance, to develop movement and posture to someone as nimble as a monkey, but as strong as a lion. They even practiced Ballet.

“He works mostly with the best contemporary ballet dancers in the world, so it was quite unusual for him to work with somebody like me who can’t touch their toes,” said Skarsgård
