Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 won’t be coming to North America or Europe for fear of critics

We have some bad news for fans of Dead or Alive‘s beach volleyball series living in North America and Europe. Koei Tecmo won’t be publishing Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 for those markets. It was confirmed when the Dead or Alive Facebook page answered a fan’s question.

“We do not bring DOAX3 to the west and won’t have any plan change in the future. Thank you for asking.”

What’s the reasoning for this? Pretty much North America and Europe are more worried about the depiction of women in the video game industry.

“Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you.”

The first game in the series, Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball (2003), featured the women of Dead or Alive competing in volleyball games and other mini-games as they wear bikinis.

It looks like developer Team Ninja and publisher Koei Tecmo are trying to prevent those who are against the objectification of women in gaming from attacking the games, thus reducing sales and causing more controversy.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will still launch in Japan in February 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

Fans in North America and Europe can still play the game since the game will work on any PS4 console. You can import the game from stores like Play-Asia.
