King of Fighters XIV to be playable at PlayStation Experience next week

I have my reservations about King of Fighters XIV. Of course, I’ve felt that way a few times for the series including 99′, XII and Maximum Impact. One thing that always kept me interested in the KoF series was how faithful it was to its 2D sprites up until KoF XII, where we saw the series transition from 2D to 2.5D and characters getting a new look. While some were improved like Kyo and Iori, other characters like Ralph and Clark went in a terrible direction. The two became huge muscular behemoths, sort of like the incredible Hulk without being green. I understand it was something that had to be done to try to appeal to a new audience, but KoF XII was still a mess and XIII was improved vastly. The battle system I’ve come to enjoy since KoF 94′ was still there, but it wasn’t the same.

I mentioned Maximum Impact earlier, and so far that’s all I see in XIV – lifeless 3D character models fighting it out with very familiar move sets, which is a bit disappointing since it’s a huge step in the wrong way from its roots. SNK Playmore revealed that first playable demo for the game will be available at the PlayStation Experience next week, and it will launch a pre-PlyaStation Experience trailer which adds Andy Bogard to the list of playable characters along with Leona, Chang Koehan, Kyo Kusanagi, and Iori Yagami.
