a monster calls

In a world where Frozen and Disney sequels flood our theaters, creating millions of costumed fans squealing in delight (and that’s just the adults), we catch a glimpse of a tale that, although was created in the last decade, will really find fans of all ages.

From the creative mind behind The Impossible and The Orphanage (J.A. Bayona) comes a tale of finding the strength to overcome any struggle, even if it comes from a monster. A Monster Calls, adapted from the children’s novel of the same name, reveals the story of Connor, a young boy who feels like he is invisible to the world around him and has to deal with hardships and bullies. Finally fed up with everything, he makes a call for help. Little does he know he’s going to get his answer, but it’s just not the answer he was expecting.

I actually really enjoyed the book, and I’m excited to see how the film translates the book and all the ideas of speaking the truth, coping with issues, and having the courage to overcome any obstacle. Having the original author of the book, Patrick Ness, also pen the script for the film also adds to my anticipation of what’s to come. And of course, who can negate the fact that Liam Neeson narrating the teaser makes this oh so much more wonderful?

A Monster Calls, starring Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver, and Lewis MacDougall as Connor, stomps its way into theaters October of 2016.
