Gods of Egypt gets a trailer and new posters

gods of egypt

The trailer is now out for Gods of Egypt, a film featuring Egyptian gods and Gerard Butler. The film follows a mortal thief (Brenton Thwaites) who is tasked with saving the world and bringing his love back to life. He’ll have the help from a powerful god (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in order to stop the god of darkness (Butler) from destroying this life and the Afterlife.

Alexander Proyas has been in hiatus for a bit, but he is back in the director’s chair. I’ve enjoyed his films like The Crow, Dark City and I’Robot, so I definitely have hope for this film. As for the casting, I know there will be some angry about the Egyptian characters being cast white. Some took issue when Exodus: Gods and Kings had white actors as Egyptians.

Gods of Egypt hits theaters on February 26, 2016.

Synopsis: In this spectacular action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek [Brenton Thwaites] undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau] in an unlikely alliance against Set [Gerard Butler], the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation.
