Are you guys ready for another historical film about Bruce Lee? It has been revealed that we’re getting a new film based on a controversial Bruce Lee fight called Birth of the Dragon. Hong Kong-born actor Philip Ng (Once Upon a Time in Shanghai, Vegas to Macau) will portray the iconic Bruce Lee and Yu Xia (In the Heat of the Sun, The Painted Veil) will play Wong Jack Man.

The ’60s fight between young Lee and Shaolin master Wong Jack Man started Lee on a path to develop his new martial arts. The movie will recreate the fight between Lee and Wong as we follow the point of view from Steve McKee, played by Billy Magnussen (Into the Woods, Bridge of Spies), a young martial artist torn between Lee and Wong Jack Man.

Ng was born in Hong Kong and raised in Chicago. His family owns a successful martial arts studio. He got his master’s degree in Arts Education from the University of Illinois but decided to become a martial arts actor in Hong Kong.

McKee’s love interest, Xiulan, will be played by Jinging Qu (Old Boys: The Way of the Dragon, Journey Through China), and the antagonist, crime boss Auntie Blozzom, will be played by Jin Xing.

Since this is a martial arts film, who better to choreograph the fight scenes than Corey Yuen, who’s worked on films like Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die and The Expendables.

The film will be directed by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) from a script by Christopher Wilkinson (Ali, Nixon) and Stephen J. Rivele (Ali, Nixon).

Shooting will begin November 17 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
