Chloe Moretz set to star in Universal Studios adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid’

Am I the only one who finds the entire Disney film The Little Mermaid a little disturbing? I mean, the story was based on a teenager wanting to do whatever she wants, with whoever she wants, and in the end, gets away with it, right? She was only 16 years old, people!!

Well, it looks like that won’t be the last time we hear ‘Under the Sea’. Variety reports that Chloe Moretz is set to play the title character for Working Title and Universal’s adaption of The Little Mermaid. Richard Curtis, the man behind 2009’s Pirate Radio and 2013’s About Time, has been announced to be writing the screenplay for the project.

There has been no information as to how this version will compare to other versions, or even from the original story from writer Hans Christian Andersen. News reports came earlier this year about Sofia Coppola stepping away from the project due to being unable to find a lead actress for the role of Ariel. Now with this step towards landing their lead actress and having someone ready to pen the film, it’s only a matter of time before we start hearing the “Sha la la la la la don’t be scared” music on the radios with kids running around with mermaid costumes wanting to leave the house at 16, because they saw it in a movie.

What do you think? What do you think about casting Chloe Moretz as Ariel? What songs from the Disney movie do you already have stuck in your head?
